Sister Act is a lively stage adaptation of the beloved 1992 film about a nightclub singer turned accidental nun..
Set in 1970s Philadelphia, the plot follows Deloris, who witnesses a mob hit and is placed in witness protection at a convent, posing as a nun. Initially out of place in the quiet, conservative world of the church, Deloris uses her lively, secular personality to rejuvenate the convent’s struggling choir, turning it into a powerhouse that brings the community together.
With music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and a book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner, the musical brings the heartwarming story of Deloris Van Cartier. The musical features a blend of gospel, soul, and disco-inspired tunes that add an infectious energy to the show. With humor and heart, Sister Act explores themes of sisterhood, self-discovery, and redemption.

But, however limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non-conforming, gender-fluid, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with.
We will also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities; we encourage Arab, Asian, Black, Caucasian, Latino, Native, and Multiracial actors to audition for all roles. In addition, we will list disability when specific to a character, but are otherwise seeking actors with disabilities as well as non-disabled actors for all roles. CHARACTERS
DELORIS VAN CARTIER: An aspiring performer, trying to find both fame and a place in the world. When forced to hide in the convent, she initially refuses to embrace her new lifestyle, but learns to embrace it when she works with the choir. Loud-mouthed, and sassy, but ultimately caring. Female, age 25-35; Vocal range F#5-E3
MOTHER SUPERIOR: The head of the convent, sarcastic and a bit stiff. Extremely protective about keeping her sisters away from the outside world, which puts her in direct opposition to Deloris and her musical teachings. Female, age 50-70; Vocal Range E5-D3
SISTER MARY ROBERT: A postulant, abandoned as a baby and raised at the convent. Shy and soft-spoken, but singing with Deloris lets her find her voice. Her wallflower lifestyle has made her live a shell of a life. Female, age 16-25; Vocal Range A5-F#3
SISTER MARY PATRICK: A nun of the convent. Consistently perky, enthusiastic, and easily excitable. Female, age 35-50; Vocal Range B5-A3
SISTER MARY LAZARUS: A nun of the convent and the head of the choir. Rather deadpan and the least welcoming of any of the nuns, but she gets caught up in Deloris’s soul music. Female, age 50-70; Vocal Range B4-F3
MONSIGNOR O’HARA: One of the heads of the convent. Constantly concerned with financial matters, though soul music surprisingly puts him in a different mood. Male, age 45-60; Vocal Range G4-E3
CURTIS: A club owner, notorious gangster, and Deloris’s boyfriend. Cocky and controlling, always on the verge of violence. Male, age 30-40; Vocal Range Ab4-A2
EDDIE SOUTHER: The desk chief at the Philadelphia police station and a high school classmate of Deloris who helps get her into hiding. Faces a lot of nerves when under pressure, causing him to sweat profusely. He still yearns for Deloris after all these years, and dreams of being her hero. Male, age 25-35; Vocal Range B4-Ab2
TJ: Curtis’s nephew and one of his thugs. Deft and cognizant of the fact, constantly in a state of ignorant bliss. Male, age 16-30; Vocal Range Eb5-Db3
JOEY: One of Curtis’s thugs. Believes himself to be quite the ladies’ man. Male, age 30-40; Vocal Range Eb5-Bb2
PABLO: One of Curtis’s thugs. A natural follower, constantly speaks in Spanish. Male, age 25-40; Vocal Range F5-C4
SISTER MARY MARTIN-OF-TOURS: A nun of the convent. Clearly in her own world, but has her moments of surprising clarity. Female, age 40-60
SISTER MARY THERESA: A nun of the convent, the oldest of the group. Decrepit at a glance, but secretly packs a punch. Female, age 60-70
MICHELLE: One of Deloris’s back-up singers. Lippy and always quick with a retort. Female, age 20-30; Vocal Range F5-Bb3
TINA: One of Deloris’s back-up singers. A little thick and naive. Female, age 20-30; Vocal Range: F5-Ab3
ERNIE: One of Curtis’s thugs. Initially thought to be a mindless yes-man, he turns out to be an undercover police informant. Male, age 25-35
ENSEMBLE: Nuns; Bar Denizens (Bar Patron, Waitress, Pool Player, Drag Queen); Homeless People; Fantasy Dancers
